columbia forever whitening

We know how important a bright smile is for our patients, which is why we offer professional teeth whitening. You could have smiles brightened by several shades! In today’s blog, your Columbia, TN, dentist talks about our in-office teeth whitening procedure and our Forever Whitening program.

The Causes of Teeth Stains

Why do teeth stains form on our smiles? For some, this is the result of plaque buildup, which coats the teeth and makes stains more visible. Plaque could be the result of poor brushing and flossing habits and a diet high in sugar and starch. Consuming beverages with dark pigments, such as red wine, coffee, soda, and tea could be a factor. As part of your treatment, we will examine your smile to assess the cause and extent of your discoloration, so we can choose the right solution for you. For most cases, our in-office treatment is enough. If you have permanent teeth stains, then we could discuss masking them with bonding, veneers, or a combination of the two.

Brighter Smiles in One Visit

To brighten your smile in only one visit, we have an in-office treatment known as Philips Zoom! Whitening. Our team will start the procedure by placing a special protective coating on your lips and gums. We then place a powerful bleaching gel onto the surfaces of the teeth. We then activate the bleaching ingredients with a special light. We then repeat the process as needed to obtain optimal results. The process breaks up stains and could offer smiles several shades brighter in as little as one hour.

Forever Whitening

Our team knows that even with good oral hygiene habits, stains will reappear over time. But we have an option to help keep your smile shining and bright. With the Forever Whitening program, after your in-office procedure we will send you home with a set of custom plastic trays, fitted for your smile, along with a refill tube of whitening gel. We will provide these at each six-month checkup visit, so you can keep your smile bright and avoid the onset of serious stains. At home, you just fill the trays with gel and wear them each day for about an hour or as instructed.

Keeping Smiles Bright

Along with our cosmetic treatments, you can help your smile stay bright by cutting back on foods and drinks high in sugar and starch, brushing and flossing daily, and seeing our team for a checkup and cleaning every six months.
