A Look At Helping Smiles With Dentures

columbia dentures

If you have lost a tooth, we could help by securing a dental bridge. But what if your tooth loss is much more severe? If you have lost several of your teeth, we could offer a set of custom replacement teeth! In today’s blog, your Columbia, TN, dentist talks about our full, partial, and even our implant-secured dentures!

Partials

If you have a case in which you are missing a significant number of teeth and these gaps are spread out across your smile, then you need more than a bridge, but a full denture may not be necessary, as you still have a number of natural teeth in place. In a situation like this, we could help address your tooth loss with a set of partial dentures.

We begin by taking images and measurements of your bite with digital technology, using these in a lab setting to design and craft your new teeth. The finished prosthetic will contain lifelike ceramic teeth shaded to blend with the rest of your smile. These are attached to a base that looks like gum tissue. When you wear your new teeth, metal clasps will attach to natural teeth to keep the prosthetic firmly in place. Soaking and cleaning can help keep it pliable and ensure it can last for years to come.

Fulls

For people with a more severe case of tooth loss, missing most or all of their teeth, we could for a full set of dentures. Our team will begin by numbing the smile and gently removing the last few teeth. We again create a custom set of new teeth, but this will contain a complete row of lifelike and durable teeth, all set in an acrylic base that mimics the appearance of gum tissue. Suction or anesthesia will keep them in place, and again they end routine soaking and cleaning, and can last about 5 to 10 years on average.

Implant Support

We have discussed removable partial, and full dentures, but did you know we can also secure them with dental implants? We will insert these into the jaw, where they act like tooth roots to keep your jawbone intact and prevent the loss of mass and density, so your new teeth can stay in place for decades at a time instead of just a few years. We then attach a prosthetic to them, fixing them in place. You don’t need to remove them for soaking or cleaning. Our team can help decide which option benefits you more!
