Sensitivity, Aggressive Care, And What’s Next

You might assume that going into your dental hygiene session with full force is probably best when it comes to obliterating plaque and getting your smile clean. While we can certainly understand why you have adopted this perspective, we also must correct you! When you provide forceful care, you overdo it. You even cause irritation and the potential for serious damage and dental sensitivity. What you’re not doing is offering yourself the oral health protection you need. Let’s help you better recognize what you should be doing.

What Happens With Aggressive Care

We don’t think you’re crazy because you’re practicing aggressive care. When you think about removing buildup from hard surfaces, you’re usually taught to really put some weight behind it (whether you’re cleaning a car, the tile floor, etc.). When it’s your teeth, however, all of that force is just going to hurt you. It can make your gums upset (and they will recede) and it may even erode the protective outer tissue layer called enamel, which can yield dental sensitivity.

What You Should Be Doing

Cleaning your teeth, while avoiding damage and dental sensitivity, means doing so in a gentle manner. With non-abrasive toothpaste and a soft-bristle brush, gently cleanse by using only a little bit of pressure. It’s very easy!

What To Ask Us About

When you’re transitioning from aggressive smile care to a gentler form, we encourage you to ask us about whatever it is you’re unsure about! As a result, you’ll feel fully confident in your approach to oral health protection. Maybe you would like suggestions for products, your technique, or you even want a quick demonstration. No problem!
