Flossing: 2 Reasons You’d Rather Do Anything Else

You may not know exactly why you hate flossing. You just know that you do. The bad news is that when you do not incorporate this essential part of oral health care into your dental hygiene routine, you run the risk of facing some serious problems in the not too distant future. Let that gunk (plaque, food particles, etc.) accumulate between your teeth and just under your gum tissue and you are encouraging cavities and gum disease to show up. So, what to do? Why do you loathe flossing with such intensity? We’ve got some ideas that can help.

Reason #1: It’s Uncomfortable

You might hate flossing at the moment because this part of your dental hygiene routine is uncomfortable for your smile. Your gums hurt when you do it. Or, they feel a little puffy afterwards. Maybe it hurts while you’re flossing. Perhaps you bleed a little. In healthy gums, this just means you need to find floss for sensitive gums and you need to be more gentle. Or, could also point to a problem like gingivitis, so if pain persists, let us know soon!

Reason #2: It Taste Weird

Not thrilled with the berry flavored floss you chose? Try something else. If it’s just a matter of finding a flavor (there are many) or a texture (again, there’s a long list) you enjoy. It’s time to try out some new options. Remember that waxed versus unwaxed may also come into play (and it’s completely up to you). As a result, this part of your dental hygiene will become something that actually tastes good.
